Blood Collection Tubes

BLUE TOP
Contains buffered 3.2% solution Sodium Citrate as anticoagulant. Available in 13 x 75 with 2.7 mL volume draw and 10.25 x 47 with 1.8 mL volume draw. Sterile plastic tube. Tube must be filled for proper blood to anticoagulant ratio. Invert 8-10 times to facilitate mixing and prevent coagulation.

BLUE TOP – To be used for Fibrin Split Products only.
Contains soybean trypsin inhibitor, Bothrops atrax venom. Available in 13 x 75 with 2 mL volume draw. Sterile glass tube. Invert 8-10 times to facilitate mixing and prevent coagulation.

ROYAL BLUE TOP PLAIN – To be used for heavy metal studies.
Contains no additive (trace metal free). Available in 13 x 100 with 6 mL volume draw. Sterile plastic tube.

ROYAL BLUE TOP EDTA – To be used for heavy metal studies.
Contains Potassium EDTA (trace metal free). Available in 13 x 100 with 6 mL volume draw. Sterile plastic tube. Invert 8-10 times to facilitate mixing and prevent coagulation.

GOLD TOP GEL (SERUM SEPARATOR)
Contains a gel substance at bottom of tube and clot activator on interior walls of tube. No anticoagulant. Available in 13 x 100 with 5 mL volume draw. Sterile plastic tube. Serum separator tube. Invert 8-10 times to facilitate mixing. Allow blood to clot upright for 30 minutes. Centrifuge for 10 minutes at 2800 RPMs. After centrifugation, the gel forms a barrier between the clot and the serum.

GREEN TOP
Contains Lithium Heparin as anticoagulant. Available in 13 x 75 with 4 mL volume draw and 13 x 100 with 6 mL volume draw. Sterile plastic tube. Invert 8-10 times to facilitate mixing and prevent coagulation.

GREEN TOP – To be used for leukocyte typings and chromosome studies.
Contains Sodium Heparin as anticoagulant. Available in 16 x 100 with 10 mL volume draw and 10.25 x 64 with 3 mL volume draw. Sterile glass tube. Invert 8-10 times to facilitate mixing and prevent coagulation.

MINT GREEN TOP (PLASMA SEPARATOR) – To be used for trauma packs, PTH Intact and homocysteine testing.
Contains Lithium Heparin as anticoagulant. Contains a gel substance at the bottom of the tube which forms a barrier between the cells and plasma upon centrifugation for 10 minutes at 2800 rpm. Available in 13 x 100 with 4.5 mL volume draw. Sterile plastic tube. Invert 8-10 times to facilitate mixing and prevent coagulation.

GRAY TOP – To be used for ethyl alcohols, glucose screens and tolerances only.
Contains Potassium Oxalate/Sodium Fluoride as anti-glycolytic and anticoagulant. Sterile plastic tube. Available in 13 x 75 with 4 mL volume draw. Invert 8-10 times to facilitate mixing.

LAVENDER TOP
Contains Potassium EDTA as anticoagulant. Available in 13 x 75 with 4 mL volume draw. Sterile plastic tube. 13 x 100 with 6 mL volume draw. Sterile plastic tube. Invert 8-10 times to facilitate mixing and prevent coagulation.

PINK TOP – To be used for Transfusion Services (Blood Bank) only.
Contains Potassium EDTA as anticoagulant. Available in 13 x 100 with 6 mL volume draw. Sterile plastic tube. Invert 8-10 times to facilitate mixing and prevent coagulation.

RED TOP
Contains no additive. Available in 13 x 100 with 6 mL volume draw. Sterile plastic tube with inert clot activator.

YELLOW TOP – To be used for leukocyte typings only.
Contains Acid Citrate Dextrose Solution A or B (Interchangeable) as a preservative and an anticoagulant. Sterile glass tube. Invert 8-10 times to facilitate mixing and prevent coagulation. Available in 13 x 100 with 6 mL volume draw.
