ANAEROBIC TRANSPORT MEDIA (Swabs are not recommended)

• Tissue specimens: (BBL Port-A-Cul)
• Aspirate, Biopsy, Fluid Specimens: (Anaerobic Systems Anaerobic Transport Medium or BD ESwab (white cap))
• Fluids Submitted in syringe with needle removed and capped is also acceptable

AEROBIC CULTURES for abscesses, wounds and tissue and routine cultures

• Tissue: submit in sterile container
• Wound or abscess:
• Fluids and aspirates: Submit in syringe with needle removed and capped or in a sterile tube

• Vaginal/Rectal screen for Gp. B Streptococcus, and Yeast screen: BBL CultureSwab (red cap, double regular swabs)

CHLAMYDIA AND N. GOHORRHOEAE DETECTION BY AMPLIFIED MOLECULAR METHOD

• Female

• Urine: sterile collection cup, first stream collection
• PAP: ThinPrep vial
• Male

• Stool Collection Container: Container fits over the toilet to collect stool or sterile specimen container

GONORRHEA CULTURE FROM NON-GENITAL SITES

• Female: BBL CultureSwab Plus with charcoal (Regular swab)
• Male Urethral: BBL CultureSwab Plus with charcoal (Urethral swab)

• Stool Collection Container: Container fits over the toilet to collect stool which will be placed in the transport vials listed above within 30 minutes.

• BD ESwab Nasopharyngeal swab (Green top)

PIN WORM

STOOL CULTURE

• Para-Pak C&S (Salmon top)
• Stool Collection Container: Container fits over the toilet to collect stool which will be placed in the transport vial listed above.

TRICHOMONAS

• Urine transported to lab within 24 hours of collection
• Genital swabs placed into Aptima multitest collection devices

VAGINITIS PANEL

• Aptima multitest swab (Panel includes testing for Bacterial Vaginosis, Candida Vaginitis and Trichomonas vaginalis)

VIRUS DETECTION

• BD Universal Viral Transport for Molecular testing and culture (nasophryngeal swab required for upper respiratory specimens)
