All orders for the early morning run (EA) must be placed into the computer prior to 1:55 a.m. for York Hospital patients and 4:30 a.m. for Gettysburg Hospital patients to be included in that days run. Orders will be generated for the collection run at that time. Once this collection list is generated, additional early morning (EA) orders that are placed in the computer will be put in a queue for the following early morning collection run. For priority orders that must be included the same day, orders should be placed and the phlebotomist paged. At York Hospital timed work will NOT be collected between the hours of 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. with the exception of PTT, Troponin, and CBC on a timed schedule, and timed drug requests such as vancomycin.
All early morning requests for ICU areas will be collected starting at 3:00 a.m. at York Hospital and 5:30 a.m. at Gettysburg Hospital.
Collections from all other nursing units will begin at 3 a.m. at York and 5:00 a.m. at Gettysburg and will be completed by 7 a.m. At York, between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. specified collection or reporting times cannot be honored, unless the ordering clinician schedules the collection with the lab and provides the phone number where he or she can be reached with the results.
At York Hospital, in addition to the early morning collection run, the laboratory will conduct routine collection runs for routine blood work for 6 a.m. (ICU areas only), 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., 8 p.m., 10 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. This system will be in effect seven days a week including holidays. Orders must be placed in the computer at least thirty five minutes prior to the scheduled collection run. Any orders entered after the cut off time will be automatically assigned to the next routine collection run. At Gettysburg Hospital routine collections after the Early Morning collection run will be collected within two hours of the order.
Priority 1 or 2 requests must be called or paged to the lab. Timed studies must be ordered as Priority 3 and will be honored throughout the hospital at any time. For York Hospital timed studies will not be honored between the four hour interval from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. except for PTT that will be collected at the specified time or within one hour after that time and Troponin which will be collected immediately. Tests that can be analyzed on a priority basis are noted in the test listing.
