Blood Resources/Donor Center
Procurement of blood donors is a joint responsibility of the WellSpan Blood Donor Center, Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank and the patient's physician. Physicians ordering blood for treatment of their patients should encourage routine blood donation by family members and friends. Only through voluntary donations from generous blood donors can we maintain a safe and adequate blood supply for WellSpan patients.
The WellSpan Blood Donor Center encourages family and friends to donate in honor of a loved one through the Sharing the Gift of Life program. More information can be obtained by contacting the WellSpan Blood Donor Center at (717) 741-8307. Directed donations offer no additional patient protection and are not an option at York Hospital.
ROUTINE BLOOD DONORS
The interval between routine blood donations is eight weeks. Donors must be at least 17 years of age, in good health and weigh at least 120 pounds. Donors who are 16 years of age are now permitted to donate if they have a written consent signed by a parent or guardian and one parent or guardian is present
The entire donation process takes approximately 45 minutes. This includes a brief mini-physical, health history, the donation of the blood and some time to relax in our refreshment area. The blood collection itself usually takes 5-10 minutes.

PLATELETPHERESIS DONORS

THERAPEUTIC PHLEBOTOMY
Outpatients
This procedure requires a written request from the physician stating the patient's name, date of birth, diagnosis, dates of the withdrawal or the frequency. Inpatients

On weekends, holidays and off-shifts contact Transfusion Services at 717-851-2510.
Gettysburg Hospital patients are handled by the Gettysburg nursing staff.
Good Samaritan Hospital patients are handled in the patient's room by the Blood Bank and/ or Donor Center personnel.
